April, 2007 - Father Reunited with Abducted Daughter
ALLENTON - A Washington County father is reunited with his baby daughter nearly two years after she was snatched from his arms.
The girl's mother and grandmother are now in jail.
The U.S. Marshals office tells TODAY'S TMJ4 that Beth Peterson and Janet Shields have been on the run with the little girl since she was abducted outside her home in the town of Allenton in Washington County. All three were found in Texas.
"It's been over a year and a half and I pretty much thought I wasn't going to get her back - I kept praying everyday and it came true yesterday," said Brian Faber.
His daughter Jocelyn was just 9-months-old when she was abducted.
Faber, 29, was embroiled in a custody dispute with Peterson his then-20-year-old girlfriend. The couple had been awarded joint custody, according to Washington County Sheriff Dale Schmidt.
According to sheriff's department reports, Faber was getting the baby out of her car seat on Aug. 20, when Peterson and her mother arrived at his home. The former couple argued, and a neighbor came out and offered to hold the child while Faber called the sheriff's department. When Faber turned to go into the house, the three adults fled with Jocelyn.
"They took off with the car door wide open - screeched away with the door wide open and that was the last time I seen her until yesterday," Farber explained.
Schmidt said authorities quickly focused on Texas because they knew Peterson's mother had connections there, but they were hamstrung because Peterson could not be charged with a crime since she had joint custody. They stepped up their search after a Washington County court awarded sole custody to Faber, he said.
After a picture of Peterson and the baby aired on the TV show "America's Most Wanted" last month, authorities received a tip that Peterson, her mother and the child were at a hotel near Dallas, Schmidt said. The women have been charged with obstructing a court order and contempt of court, he said.
U.S. Marshals in Milwaukee credit a lot of team work with law enforcement and long hours for cracking this case.
"This one was a perfect ending," said Chuck Rowland of the U.S. Marshals office. "They did a great job. They were very smart criminals. Fortunately we were smarter than they were."
Farber described his feelings just prior to their reunion. "Anxious - butterflies because I haven't seen her. Didn't know how she'd react. What she looks like."
Faber is taking time off from work so he can spend time getting to know his daughter.

| October, 2004 - On June 19, 2004, a 16-year-old girl from Ellensburg, Washington, left with a friend for a concert in Seattle without her mother's permission. After a few days, the child's friend returned home and said she last saw the girl living in an abandoned home with a companion she had met at the concert. A few months later the child sent her friend an e-mail indicating she was in Grand Junction, Colorado, so NCMEC case managers requested a blast fax of the child's poster using Choicepoint - a company that donated technologies capable of sending posters to many recipients within the search area. Two woman that work in a soup kitchen in the area received the missing child poster and called NCMEC to report that the child comes in often. When the child returned, the woman encouraged her to call her mother. The child did and decided to return home.
| March, 2004 - In June 2002 a 5-year-old boy went for an approved visitation with his mother but was not returned to his father on the agreed date. Because the mother has family in Illinois, NCMEC heavily targeted the mid-west area with missing child posters. In January 2004, a teacher attending a training program at another school recognized the child's poster in the teacher's lounge. She contacted the principal of her school and the child's records were pulled. When they were able to identify the boy as the missing child from the description on the poster, they immediately notified authorities. The abductor was apprehended and the child was reunited with his father.
| February, 2004 - On September 2, 2003, NCMEC's Exploited Child Unit (ECU) received eight CyberTipline reports from a registered Internet Service Provider (ISP). The ISP provided many images of what appeared to be graphic child pornography as well as information on the user who allegedly posted the images to an online group. ECU analysts conducted Internet and public database searches on the suspect's E-mail address, screen name and IP address, which lead to a possible name and location in Boynton Beach, Florida. The CyberTipline report was sent to the Broward County Sheriff's Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Boynton Beach Police Department. Shortly after questioning the suspect, a citizen discovered child pornography in a dumpster near the suspect's home and notified authorities. The suspect's screen name was found on this material. The suspect admitted to downloading the material and was arrested on December 18, 2003. Over 750 images of child pornography were found on the suspect's computer and disks. He was booked on felony charges of Possession and Transmission of Child Pornography.
| February, 2004 - On October 22, 1999, a Las Vegas, Nevada, woman allowed her estranged husband to take their three children to a movie theater, but they never returned home. After four years, an anonymous call came into the NCMEC Hot Line. The caller stated that she had recognized the three children from a NCMEC missing children poster on a Wal-Mart bulletin board in San Diego, California. She provided an address in Mexico where the abductor and children were living. NCMEC's International division translated the abductor's arrest warrant and the custody order and forwarded them to Mexican authorities. The children were located and safely reunited with their mother.

September, 2003 - A mother's 15-month search for her blue-eyed little boy has ended in the best possibly way. Today, September 12, 2003, FBI agents led a team into Ohio and arrested Mark Samples and recovered his son Christopher. This arrest/recovery is a direct result of the Samples appearance on America's Most Wanted: America Fights Back. This case appeared on America's Most Wanted on three occasions and also was the subject of an America's Most Wanted Radio spot. Hundreds of seemingly credible, and often emotional tipsters called in, placing Mark and Christopher all over the country. While federal agents tracked those tips, Jennifer initiated her own search, including a bus trip from her home to Mark's hometown of St. Alban's, West Virginia.
Then, the tip cops needed finally came in. An anonymous viewer called and knew exactly where Mark was hiding: the small town of East Rochester, Ohio. And the best news, Christopher was there and in good health. This afternoon, agents, working with Mahoning County Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force, made their move and arrested Mark and rescued Christopher. By day's end, Christopher was in his mother's arms again. Mark Samples has a first appearance in US District Court on Monday

| October, 2002 - Letter from a thankful parent to the Montgomery Shop Rite in Skillman, NJ:
"I just want to say thank you!!! Today, my son wandered away from me while shopping. My daughter and I began looking and calling for him with no luck. I was panicked. I went to the courtesy counter and told a female employee I couldn't find my son. She immediately took the necessary information, picked up the phone and began a Code Adam. As I rounded the corner of the courtesy counter to continue searching for my son, another customer was in the distance, my son in hand, bringing him towards the courtesy counter!!!! I've never been so afraid in all my life. I finished up my shopping, checked out, got to my car and cried! I can't thank the staff of Shop Rite enough for acting so quickly and professionally. I am very thankful that Shop Rite has Code Adam in place. It should give every parent a sense of relief to know that this program exists. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!!!!!"
